Tym and Agnes were both born to missionary parents who eventually served and lived in Guinea Bissau. They both lived for several years as children in Guinea Bissau and that is where they met. After returning to Brazil (their home country) for college and further training, they were married and now have a son, Peter and a daughter named anna. They returned to Guinea Bissau to live full time in Quebo and work among the Fula people in 2017.
Their desire is to see Guineans have access to education, good healthcare, and opportunities to learn skills that will help them provide for their families. As well as helping the people meet their physical needs, they focus on sharing the gospel with them in ways they can understand.
They live in Quebo, Guinea-Bissau, surrounded mostly by Fula people. The Fula people are a nomadic Muslim group that is present in many different West-African countries. According to Joshua Project, there are about 350,000 Fulas in Guinea-Bissau and only 0.2% are evangelical Christians.
Tym teaches in the school, preaches occasionally at the church, and helps in the agricultural training. He also helps manage the different construction projects that are always going on around the base in Quebo.
While supporting Tym, caring for their children, and creating a home on the field, Agnes is involved in our partner schools. Agnes works with the pre-k and k5 classes to work towards bilingual literacy for the students. She and Tym are both fluent in Kriol and Portuguese.
We invite you to partner with them. The two main ways that you can do that are:
- PRAY- First, you can commit to pray for them. It is so encouraging when things get tough on the field to know that there is an army of people praying. They are living in an area with much spiritual warfare. They want to have good relationships with the people and to have a healthy marriage and spiritual life. Please pray for protection over their health both physically and spiritually. If you are not already receiving their updates and would like to receive them please email them at tymschafer@gmail.com and ask them to add you to the list. There are also lots of prayer ideas on our website at http://www.hoperemembered.org/pray/
- GIVE- Second, you can partner with them through financial support. You can give a one-time gift or make a monthly commitment. Your financial gift is tax-deductible
Thank you for helping them make a difference among the unreached people groups of Guinea Bissau!
